Will the Real Buttonhole Stitch Please Stand Up?

The edge of this piece of linen was worked with Tailor's Buttonhole (maybe I should call it Antique Buttonhole Stitch) on the left and closely-spaced Blanket Stitch on the right.  The difference in the stitches is fairly obvious.  The Tailor's Buttonhole has a lower profile than the blanket stitch and is a knotted stitch, making it better suited to actually working the edges of a button hole.  It would also be less likely to come apart if frayed or cut than the blanket stitch.

Click on the photo below for a better view of the "bead" formed on the edge by both stitches.

Yes, I know, my nails and cuticles look awful. I have not been taking very good care of them. Ever since the thyroid trouble, it just seemed like a waste of my time. However, they have been healthier since I quit work.
